Bosu Ball

The gym was practically empty this morning. I was there around 3:45 and the only person until around 5 am. Then people started trickling in. I usually get energized during the holidays and try new routines to incorporate into my workout. This morning it was the Bosu ball.

If you go to a gym I am pretty sure you have seen it but may not know the name. It is flat on one side and half a sphere on the other.

I did one-legged squats with the front leg on the Bosu and the back leg on a bench. In addition to the glutes, quads and the hamstrings that work during this exercise when done without the Bosu, in this routine you also incorporate all the flexor and extensor tendons of the leg which are the primary stabilizers of the ankles. It is much harder than having the front leg on the floor. To make it a notch harder, hold a 5 or 10 lb plate out in front of you while doing the squat. It quickly becoms a cardio exercise and your heart rate shoots up. You can do this exercise with your foot on the curved or the flat side. Each one presents its own challenges!!

As you may know, the Bosu is perfect for doing pushups. You can have your hands on the edges or for a better triceps workout bring your hands towards the center of the Bosu! If you have any other exercises that you do on the Bosu please let me know.

Happy Bosu!
