Dont' Just Talk About Wanting to Lose Weight

Here is a typical conversation I would have with someone who knows I'm into fitness/nutrition blah blah blah...  He/She " I really want to lose weight."  Me " Oh, yea? well let's see... are you going to the gym?" He/She " No, just don't have that time right now.  Oh, wait I need to get a coke, I have been craving one for a while".  Me " But you are drinking your calories."  He/She " Yes, but I don't care, I really want to drink a coke."   Days or weeks later, I run into this person again, and the same type of conversation takes place, same goals... they want to lose weight.  But they don't want to do anything about it.  As a good friend of mine put it succinctly, this type of talk is so confusing.  The weight loss is ALWAYS somehow brought up but no real progress, because no work goes into this fantasy of losing weight.

Our weight seems to be highly genetically determined.  Based on all the scientific publications I have read, once we gain weight, our bodies find a new normal (at that higher weight) range and don't want to lose the fat cells.  Apparently evolutions dictates that we gain weight and during the cave man's time, we would lose that weight during times of shortage.  But millions of years later, and with thousands of McDonald's around, we no longer have the shortage so we don't lose the weight.  Therefore year after year after year, we gain the weight, and WE NEVER LOSE IT.  Unless we do something about it.

Yes exercise is great for you and you should exercise most days of the week.  Definitely more than 3 days (unless you are eating like a bird), otherwise with all the calories around you packaged in beautiful boxes, you will slowly gain weight... again!   So what is one to do?  Watch those calories.  By watch I mean restrict.
To lose weight, you must revolutionize your eating habits.  Don't be one a diet... create clean healthy eating habits that are sustainable.

Wanting to lose weight will not bring results.  Sorry!   No matter how bad you want it.  You need to DO!
