Back From the Last Vacation... Back To School...

I had a great time another week at the beach with my family and working out at the Field House.  We ate out most nights (very healthy food) and ate in for most lunches- great lean-meat sandwiches for my sweet family and fantastic salads with grilled or blackened salmon.  We had an ice chest full of veggies and fruits going there and then another full one coming home.  Then just out side of College Station we stopped at a farmers market and I purchased even more local fruits and veggies, in addition to Texas salsas and tomato relishes. Yummy!  As I always say, an ice chest is your best friend on the road.  Now most fast food places have some kind of salad or grilled chicken.  Take advantage of that and don't get the french fries and the small burger (small compared to what), using the excuse that there is nothing else to eat.

Virtually all fast food restaurants have some version of a salad (sans the salad dressing)- again no excuses!

Restaurant vocabulary:
Sauteed- laden with some kind of oil and perhaps not the mono-unsaturated kind
Cream on top of fish- a dressing over loaded with calories
Breaded- fried
mixed greens- iceberg lettuce only- good luck finding a leaf of spinach
House salad- the cheapest and bottom of the barrel greens

And by the way, if you are wondering about caloric content of a few different entrees in restaurants, here is an eye opener!

T-bone Steak and Eggs at Denny's- 780 calories
Steak Fajita Burrito at Chipotles- 895 calories
6-inch Double Oven Roasted Chicken Sub at Subway- 410 calories
Grilled Chicken Sandwich at Sonic- 420 calories
