Playing with Cables at the Gym

You may be wondering with the presence of machines and dumbbells why would any one use cables at the gym.  Their versatility makes them ideal for a full body workout.   Just to name a few, you can do chest workouts, triceps, biceps, shoulders, back and a range of lower body exercises such as squats and lunges.  They are basically a mini-gym inside your gym.

Pick out your exercise and then move the handle accordingly.  So for example if you want to work chest, then the cable heads (where you want to connect the handle/rope) should be at shoulder level or a bit higher.

For middle back (most of the lats and the trapezius), you should adjust the cable head at chest level.  You can do this exercise unilaterally, with one handle, or bilaterally with a bar.

More pictures will be here for biceps and triceps exercises using the cables.
