Simple Rules to Follow at The Grocery Store

If you want to have a healthier diet for you and your loved ones, here are some simple rules (but not easy!) to follow at the grocery store.

1.  Avoid buying simple foods containing simple carbs, such as cookies, crackers, donuts, cakes, etc.

2. Avoid buying boxes of food that con you into thinking they are healthy: low-fat cookies, high protein bars (because these usually have a ton of sugar too), sugary cereals with a little bit of fiber added (Froot Loops).

3. Avoid buying low fat salad dressings because these typically have a lot of added sugar

4. Limit high fat processed meat: bacon, sausage, hot dogs, etc.- the reason I say 'limit' is because it's hard to say no to hot dogs when you have kids- The hot dog brand that we like is Hebrew National.

5.  Avoid buying sugary yogurts (strawberry banana any one? - for your strawberry banana fix, take a few strawberries and a banana, add in some milk and blend the whole thing into a very healthy smoothie).

6.  Avoid eating too many canned foods such as soups that have a lot of sodium and other additives- I like Amy's organic soups; they are a little more expensive but very good.
