Waco's Local Sustainable Food Movement

I guess Waco Sustainable Food Movement is one of the undiscovered secrets in Waco.  Come on people, if you have not visited this web site or have not gone there (the Yowell's boat yard) to personally meet the farmers who bring organic vegetables, grass-fed meat, delicious cheese, among many other things, this is the time.  First of all, here is their website http://ulljas.ning.com/

The farmers are from all over Texas and they bring their perishable foods in refrigerated trucks, therefore you MUST pre-order the perishable foods. The other things like salsa, corn relish, honey,  jellys etc. you can just come to the Yowell's Boat Yard (on Franklin just past Valley Mills on the right) and buy.  I bought salsa from 'Uncertain Farms' and realized that it makes all the other salsa from the grocery stores look like runny tomato sauce.  Let's put it this way, you can't pour this salsa, you have to scoop it out with a spoon!! Absolutely delicious.

Last night, I grilled fillet Mignon (grass-fed beef)- I had ordered the meat from one of the vendors who participate in the food movement.  I served it with spinach arugula salad with almonds.  It was a  dream.  They come to Waco every other Thursday and you can pick up your pre-ordered food items those days from 5-7 pm. This is your chance to eat local, organic veggies, and eggs from cage-free chickens.  The next time they will be in town is going to be next Thursday.
