What Do I Eat When I'm On The Road?

We all find ourselves on the road with our families, it's lunch time we are hungry... all we see are Jack in the Box and Mac Donald's, what do we do?  Well, when my family is on the road, I always have an ice chest; the size depends on the length of the trip.  The contents of the ice chest are usually the same... basically I clean out my fridge.  I take with me all the spinach, carrots, tomatoes and whatever else produce is in the fridge.  Also along on the trip are a variety of fruits that stay firm without having to be kept cold.  Typically I have apples, oranges, and depending on the season peaches and nectarines.

Now here is the secret.  Virtually most fast food places have some kind of a salad with chicken on top.  I order a salad, then I doctor it up with my own veggies, a handful of spinach, a few carrots and slices of tomatoes and a sprinkle of almond slices... and I have my very own gourmet salad on the road.

You must plan for this obviously, and as you practice you will find that packing your veggies for the road will become as natural and essential as packing your clothes and toiletries.

So you have no excuse such as, "There was nothing to eat and we stopped at a Mac Donald's and I ordered a hamburger and fries.  Actually Mac Donald's has a few not-so-bad (but need to be doctored up) salads on their menu and so do many other fast food joints.

But none of this really is going to help you unless you want to eat clean on the road and you start planning for it.  GET THAT ICE CHEST READY FOR YOUR ROAD TRIPS.
