Ridiculous Find of the Week

Sugar-free honey-  yes that's right.  I saw it today at the store.  It said sugar-free honey and was subtitled 'Imitation Honey'.  The main ingredient is maltitol which is a sugar alcohol. The caloric content of this imitation honey is the same as honey: 50 calories per tablespoon.  So why eat it instead of honey?  Only if you are diabetic because research suggest that sugar alcohols do not raise blood sugar as sucrose does.

However if you are looking for a low calorie substitute, this item is a total waste of money. The  calorie content is exactly the same as honey.

Bottom line:  get in the practice of reading the nutritional information carefully.
